Former Deputy Minister Water Resources, Works and Housing under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration, Hon. Samuel Yaw Adusei has warned that the exclusion of Voltarians from the top echelon executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is dangerous for the party.

He admits that the Volta Region is the world bank of the NDC since the country returned to democratic rule under the fourth republic observing it is also the first time since 1992 Voltarians are missing in the frontline NDC.

“As a true member of the party I am worried”, he said in a statement copied to MyNewsGh.com proposing that the area should be compensated with a running mate position to atone for its orphaned status.

“I think the party, our next Flagbearer and the council of elders must take it into consideration in the selection of a running mate for 2020 elections. I suggest we pick the running mate from Volta Region, there are potential men and women from the Region who are capable and can partner John Dramani Mahama for the 2020 elections”, he argued in the statement.

NO Volatarian in the frontline NDC dangerous

In the just ended 9th Delegate Congress some of the voltarians who contested for various top positions in the party lost leaving only some deputies who are not well experienced and politically exposed to maintain that connection between the party NDC and our world Bank(Volta Region). Since 1992 this is the first time voltarians are missing in the frontline NDC and as true member of the party I am worried. The only top position left is the running mate slot and I think it should go to the Volta Region. On our campaign tour with one of the chairmanship aspirants Betty Mould Iddrisu, in the just ended congress one thing I noticed in Volta Region NDC was that, they are looking for the Veep slot , the feeling was all over the entire Region.

Volta Region has been the backbone and World Bank of the NDC, no one can even talk of NDC without mentioning Volta Region. They have demonstrated unalloyed commitment to the cause of the NDC and must be recognised as such at all times.

I think the party, our next Flagbearer and the council of elders must take it into consideration in the selection of running mate for 2020 elections. I suggest we pick the running mate from Volta Region, there are potential men and women from the Region who are capable and can partner John Dramani Mahama for the 2020 elections.

The argument that there should always be one Akan in the first two gentlemen i.e the Flagbearer and the running mate to win elections in Ghana is not absolutely accurate as in the past same combinations didn’t win NDC power. I don’t vote for NDC because there is one Akan in the first two gentlemen of the party but I vote for NDC because I believe in the principles and the ideology of the party.

We can present two people from the so called “minority tribes” and still win elections in Ghana. It hasn’t been proven in the past that it’s not workable in fact we have not tried it before so I believe the Northern Region/Volta Region ticket will work for us in 2020. The Akans are well and significantly represented in the party, the chairman, General Secretary, Womens Organiser, Communications officer, Youth Organiser hence running mate from Akan origin will obscure the representation of the voltarians in the frontline NDC.
