Leaders of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region have ran to the police for cover after Minister of State in Charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, allegedly threatened to deal with a communicator of the party.

Bryan Acheampong, who many Ghanaians have blamed for the shooting incident during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections that got about 6 persons injured, is said to have threatened to eliminate the Ashanti Regional Communication Officer for the NDC, Abass Nurudeen.

The threats, which began on Facebook on Saturday, May 11, 2019, comes after the NDC communicator said in a Facebook post that a container full of arms that got intercepted by the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) at the Tema Harbour was allegedly imported by one ‘Brian Acheampong.’

The communicator posted (SIC) “Did u know that the container-load of AK 47 intercepted by CEPS was imported by BRIAN ACHEAMPONG..THE NDC must wake up.”

A screenshot of Abass Nurudeen’s facebook post, that got a lot of reactions and had begun going viral, was shared by the Minister on his Facebook timeline with a warning many says could be dangerous to the life of the NDC spokesman.

Mr Acheampong whose first name is spelt ‘Bryan’ claimed the post was referring to him and rather responded with the following.

“What do you do to fools like this making categorical statements in the name of politics. Ashanti Regional NDC officer! 1. Get him arrested to prove his allegation. 2. Sue him for defamation 3. Mechanically remove the stupidity out of him 4. Continue to pray for him 5. Report him to the peace council 6. Report him to the NDC.”

Concluding the post, Mr Acheampong added, “Me, my heart is for #4 but my mind tilts towards #3.”

The NDC have been alarmed by the above response from the Abeitifi Member of Parliament – a reason the party is taking steps to protect their communicator from what they describe as the ‘wickedness’ of president Akufo-Addo’s appointee.

Speaking on Dwaboase on Power 97.9 FM, the Ashanti Regional Secretary for the NDC, Kwame Zu disclosed that Abass Nurudeen’s life had been endangered.

“We are going to the police to report the matter to them because they are all we have to protect us in this country,” Kwame Zu noted.

He said the bloody by-elections at Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019, had been linked to Mr. Bryan Acheampong and thus, he could do anything to anyone who crosses him wrongly.

Kwame Zu believes the police will do well to ensure their communicator is protected against the wrath of the minister.
