Governance expert, Dr. Fredrick Oduro says the individuals selected to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 election campaign will be helpful for their flagbearer, John Mahama.
This comes on the back of NDC releasing the list of names for its campaign team for the party ahead of the 2024 election.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey indicated that the selection was made after an extensive consultation.
The party appointed Fifi Kwetey as the campaign coordinator, and the National Chairman, John Asiedu Nketiah as the Chairman Campaign Steering Committee.
“The National Campaign Team and Steering Committee shall all work under the leadership of the flag-bearer of the party, H.E. John Dramani Mahama and report to the Functional and National Executive Committees of the party in the discharge of their duties,” the General Secretary added.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Wednesday, the governance expert explained that a separate campaign from the flagbearer and the party is usually not helpful.
“It is very good they have chosen to do that, the idea of having a parallel campaign team working for the flagbearer and then the party hierarchy also working on another side doesn’t help. You get to hear reports of ‘oh we haven’t received the resource’. When you form a campaign team that is not in tune with the party at the base they fail to know when they should reach out. And anybody at all can just go to them and say ‘Oh I am going to send this resource to this point and they never get there’”, the governance expert stated.
According to him, it is always helpful when the party picks someone who is in touch with the grassroots.
“So I think it is a very good move and it will inure to the benefit of President Mahama for choosing these individuals,” Dr. Oduro added.
