NDC’s IEA debate snub 'senseless' – Amoako Baah

Dr. Richard Amoako Baah Head of the Department of History and Political Science of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has slammed the National Democratic Congress for pulling out of an Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA) sponsored debate for or against a new voters’ register ahead of the 2016 elections.

A statement signed by General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said it is unable to participate in the debate because the IEA is “attempting to usurp, or compete with the EC over the Voters Register issue; which is unacceptable.”

Speaking on Morning Starr Tuesday, Amoako Baah described NDC’s decision to pull out of the debate as shocking and senseless.

“It is shocking because the argument they are giving makes no sense, if IEA wants to conduct a debate how does it usurp the authority of the electoral commission…it makes no sense, this is just an attempt to cover up because they have no legs to stand on, to put it bluntly,” Amoako Baah told Morning Starr host Nii Arday Clegg Tuesday.

The political scientist added: “If you don’t want to do it, that is your prerogative but the excuses they are giving makes no sense. NDC has participated in IEA debates before, the presidential debate, why didn’t they say the same thing. The position they have taken is not sustainable”.
