The Deputy Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Maame Yaa Aboagye says it’s a good move that the opposition NDC wants to boycott the new voters’ registration exercise by the Electoral Commission.
According to her, the NPP welcomes their decision, stressing that whether or not the National Democratic Congress (NDC) partakes in the exercise it won’t change the fact that the NPP will win the 2020 elections.
The NDC Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, charged party members to abstain from the mass voter registration exercise scheduled for June 30.
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo said the party is against the compilation of a new register because the atmosphere in the country is not conducive for the exercise.
Reacting to the issue, Maame Yaa Aboagye said “I’ve always respected Mr. Ampofo but his comment is below the belt. Sadly, he never came out to tell his party followers about the change of their decision leaving many of their followers confused. Once again, he has come out to discourage his followers not to register for the voter's ID Card just like they did with the NIA card. Everyone should mark it; these same executives would be among the first Ghanaians to register”.
“The double standard of the NDC is too much. They cannot take us for granted again as they did in the Ghana card registration . . . They are fond of doing that; they say one thing in public and do another thing behind closed doors. The new voters’ register is a must and we are fully committed to it as a party,” she added.
