Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, Middle Belt Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Campaign, has revealed that the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) attempt to exploit the galamsey menace for political gain has backfired.

According to Dr. Afriye, Ghanaians have now realized that the recent public discussions on galamsey were fueled by the NDC to discredit the NPP government.

Dr. Afriye observed that while the NPP government was actively fighting illegal mining, the NDC promised amnesty and protection to illegal miners to gain power.

He alleged that top NDC leaders used galamsey as a weapon against the incumbent government to sway voters.

Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show Nyansapo, Dr. Afriye stated that miners now recognize the NDC’s deceptive tactics, thanks to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s pragmatic policies.

Dr. Afriye, also the MP for Effiduase Asokore, noted that the Small Scale Miners Association and Ghana Police have arrested key galamsey financiers linked to the NDC, exposing the party’s true intentions.

Speaking to Captain Koda, his of the Nyansapo show, the NPP stalwart said, the government has been working to combat galamsey through various measures, including the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Committee against Illegal Mining and the Community Mining Program.

Dr. Afriye assured that the next NPP government, led by Dr. Bawumia, will adopt an inclusive discussion approach to address galamsey, rather than relying on force.
