The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reignited the debate on Ghana's health policies following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto launch on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Sekondi.

Dr. Boamah used his social media platform to highlight the NDC's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3), "Health for All," through the introduction of Free Primary Healthcare.

According to Dr. Boamah, with just five years left until 2030, the NDC views Free Primary Healthcare as the critical policy needed to propel Ghana toward achieving universal health coverage.

He questioned the NPP’s current strategy towards achieving "Health for All" and whether they still oppose the NDC’s approach of Free Primary Healthcare.

Dr. Boamah in the social media post made on Monday 19, 2024 indicated that both NDC and NPP governments have historically signed international agreements aimed at achieving universal health coverage, urging that these commitments should not be taken lightly.

He called for a serious discussion on the evolution of the "Health for All" agenda from the Alma-Ata Declaration of the 1970s, through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and now the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“In the coming days, I shall avail myself for a thorough discussion on Health for All as envisaged in Alma Ata in the 70s, through the MDGs and now through the SDGs,” Dr. Boamah stated.
