‘NDC tolerates corruption’

Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, Acting General Secretary of the National Democratic Party (NDP), says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) cannot improve the lives of Ghanaians since it has accepted corruption.

He alleged that the electorate has lost faith in the government, stating that it has failed to properly administer various social intervention programmes such as Ghana Youth Employment and Development Agency (GYEDA), Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He added that officials of NDC continue to engage in fraudulent deals such as the Ameri deal and re-branding of state buses.

Alhaji Frimpong made this known during the inauguration of 13 executives of the party in the Western Region in Sekondi on Sunday.

The regional executives would steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

They include Bernard Quaidoo, Chairman, Alex Boateng, First Vice-Chairman, Albert Boampong, Second Vice-Chairman and Augustine Ghansah, Secretary.

Others include Richard Bonnah, Deputy Secretary, Nii Kwei Wilson, Communication Director, Gyetuah Ampem-Tikwah, Deputy Communication Director, Christie Williams, Women’s Leader, Francisca Pokuah, First Deputy Women’s Leader and Wilhelmina Eshun, Second Deputy Women’s leader.

The rest are Kenneth Kwarteng, Treasurer, Joel Prince Nyamekye, Deputy Treasurer and Michael Aidoo, Youth leader.

Alhaji Frimpong asked Ghanaians to support the NDP to rescue them from economic quagmire since Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the leader and founder of the party, has proven track record of helping the downtrodden in the society.

He indicated that if Ghanaians give the NDP the mandate, the party would harness the resources of the state for the benefit of the ordinary citizens and ensure probity and accountability.

He tasked the regional executives to work assiduously to mobilize grassroots support for the party in order to ensure victory in next year’s general elections.

Charles Opoku, Deputy Youth Leader of the party, stressed the need for the Electoral Commission (EC) to avert over-voting, multiple voting and electoral fraud in the 2016 general elections.

To this end, he stressed the need for the EC to adopt electronic voting in the 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections to forestall peace.

“The party believes E-voting will as well as enhance the transparency of the country’s electoral system,” he added.

“We suggest that the government can ask for support from the Indian Government to lend its electronic voting gadgets to the EC to conduct next year’s general elections since India has used e-voting successfully in its national elections over the years,” he noted.

He also indicated that the NDP supports the call for a new voter’s register and biometric verification voting in next year’s polls.

The regional congress of the NDP was supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC).
