Koforidua, Sept. 20, GNA - The Eastern Regional Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday cautioned its members to desist from campaigning in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament
(MPs) before the opening of nominations in those constituencies. The Deputy Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Mathew Mawuena Doh, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Koforidua.
He said pronouncements being made by some politicians in the region over their intention to contest some sitting MPs of the party in the region at the time nominations were not opened were worrying.
Mr Doh said the party had just completed a smooth filling of nominations in the 21 orphan" constituencies in the region and expressed the hope that the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the nominations would continue during the primaries and reflect on future developments in the party.
He appealed to members of the party who have intention to contest the primaries in the constituencies where the party has sitting MPs to bid their time until the party gives directive to guide nominations in those constituencies.
Mr Doh congratulated all those who had filed their nominations to represent the party at the next election and urged them to abide by the rules set by the party in their campaigns to ensure peaceful primaries.
