The Klottey Korle Constituency Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Bashiru Nii Narh Alema, has warned that the party risk losing the parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2016 election, should its Parliamentary candidate, Dr Zanetor Rawlings be disqualified from contesting.

According to him, the daughter of the former President, J.J Rawlings has been widely accepted and is loved by the good people of the Klottey Korle, adding that it will be politically suicidal to drop her.

Some aggrieved members of the party have sued Dr. Zanetor Rawlings at an Accra High Court challenging her election.

The aggrieved members including Joseph Narku Botchway, Jacob Amin, Alhaji Mohammed Mahmud and Reverend Michael Kwabena Nii Adjei Sowah say Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, is not qualified to be elected as Parliamentary Candidate of the party because she is not a registered voter in Ghana.

Other defendants in the suit are the NDC and the Electoral Commission.

The four NDC members want the court to declare the election of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings “null and void” and order the NDC to conduct fresh elections in the constituency.

Earlier, a private legal practitioner, Gary Nimako, wrote a letter to the Electoral Commission demanding it to find out whether the name of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings was captured in the nation’s voters register or not.

Gary Nimako in the letter demanded that the EC should also provide information on the date her name was entered in the nation’s electoral roll.

However speaking to Kasapa News, Alhaji Bashiru Nii Narh Alema stated that the party will have itself to blame if it does not take steps to have Dr Zaneto retained as the candidate for the area and given the needed support.

He said though he acknowledges the constitutional rights of the members to seek redress on matters that borders their minds, they should be mindful of the implication of their actions on the forward march of the party into this year’s polls

Alhaji Bashiru Nii Narh Alema assured to use his good offices to ensure that a consensus that will inure to the benefit of the party is reached as the NDC cannot afford to lose the Klottey Korle seat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
