Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije has expressed optimism the opposition NDC will win the 2020 elections massively.

The former Sports Minister said the anger among the “suffering Ghanaians” resulting from the “bad policies” of the Akufo-Addo government has reached a crescendo that Ghanaians have no option than to revote for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former president John Mahama.

Speaking on Dwaboase on Power 97.9 FM in his constituency during an Outside Broadcast event, the Legislator said his meeting with spare aprts dealers at Abossey Okai last Wednesday gave him the hope that Ghanaians are yearning to vote out the “incompetent” NPP government in 2020.

“After I met with the executives of the Abossey Okai Spare parts dealers, i became more convinced that the NDC will win power in 2020,” he told co-host Kwame Minkah, adding that the masses are angry with the NPP government which is characterised by nepotism.

Touching on the roadmap to an NDC victory in the 2020 polls, Mr Vanderpuye noted that the umbrella family has realized the need to involve all sectors of the economy in its manifesto for the 2020 elections and its as a result the party is consulting all stakeholders for their inputs.

According to him, the grievances of the spare parts dealers poured out during their meeting with him demonstrates the current government has lost the elections in advance. He also stressed that the promises the NPP offered them in the run up to the 2020 elections have not been fulfilled by President Akufo-Addo, stressing that fuel hikes and reckless tax increments have brought about hardship in the country than Ghanaians least envisaged.

Anger Building Up

At the out broadcast event at the Gbese Mantse’s palace, residents in the area observed that the government only shared goodies among only members of the NPP.

“Premix fuel for fisherfolks are being shared by party chairmen and other executives, and it is not happening here in Accra, it is same in Accra, Anomabo and Cape Coast,” a local pastor alleged.

Similar sentiments run among thousands of artisans and traders across the country as well as citizens, following fuel hikes resulting in heightening cost of goods and services.

Ghanaians now purchase a litre of petrol for GHS5.39 and a gallon of same for almost GHS25.00 at the pump since September this year.

At the start of October, telecommunications companies started upfront deduction from customers at any recharge, following the increase of Communication Service Tax (CST) to nine per cent from the initial six per cent.

The telcos decided to pass on the increment directly to subscribers in what government found to be making it unpopular.

The Telcos who are reluctant to stop the deduction argue that according to Section 25 of the Electronic Communication ACT 2008, the tariffs for Electronic Communication Services except those which are regulated by the Authority under the section shall be determined by the service providers in accordance with the principles of supply and demand.

However, the government says the same ACT gives the sector minister the power to issue direcvtives to regulate the industry and protect subscribers.

Meanwhile, mobile phone users have raised red flags over the matter and have since tagged the government as insensitive, vowing to vote against the NPP in 2020.

Commenting on the hardship, Nii Lante Vanderpuye said nothing will save the NPP government in the 2020 polls irrespective of the mayhem they are planning to cause with thugs who are undergoing training at Asutuare in the Eastern region.

“The anger in Ghanaians will be shown in 2020 regardless what they [the government will do…I have heard they are training about 500 people at Asutuare [ahead of the 2020 elections]. They can train them, we also have the men,” he added.
