Angry National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Northern Region have vowed not to allow the incumbent District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Dramani Mumuni, to be retained.
The youth have equally served notice they will make sure the DCE’s administration fails if assembly members allow themselves to be coerced by invisible hands into confirming him.
A planned demonstration by the aggrieved youth against his re-nomination by President John Dramani Mahama scheduled for last Monday was scuttled by armed military personnel who stormed the town in their numbers.
Constituency executives of the party who spoke to DAILY GUIDE indicated that the DCE is not the preferred choice of the people, adding that his continuous stay in office will ruin the electoral fortunes of the NDC in the district.
According to them, his name was not in the shortlisted candidates forwarded to the presidency. They therefore wondered how he managed to be reappointed after failing to give a good account of himself in the previous four years of his appointment.
Abubakri Mohammed, Constituency Youth Organiser, maintained that the youth will not be intimidated by the presence of the military in the area and will go ahead to stage the demonstration in protest against the DCE’s re-appointment.
According to him, the DCE has failed to prove his competence in the administration of the district, noting that it is the reason the area lagged behind in development.
He alleged that the DCE could only be credited for nursing disunity and bickering within the party, warning that his continued stay will not augur well for the NDC in the area.
The Youth Organiser explained that instead of making the party appealing to the electorate, Mr Dramani rather used his position to do otherwise.
“We cannot point out a single project he embarked on that benefitted the people of the area,” he stated.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Isaac Dramani Mumuni denied inviting military into the town to intimidate the youth, indicating that all these were calculated attempts to ruin his reputation.
He accused the executives of plotting against him after they sought for the same position and were not appointed. He blamed them for inciting the youth against him in an attempt to get back at him.
Their allegations and instigations, according to him, were misplaced. He observed that if he never performed during his four-year mandate, the President would have ousted him rather than retained him.
The DCE noted that their grievances were borne out of malice and personal hatred, explaining that his confirmation was in the bosom of assembly members who will either endorse his re-nomination or otherwise.
