Director of Elections for the opposition National Democratic Congres (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has revealed National Identification Authority (NIA) officials who are working in the ongoing Ghana Card registration are working in favour of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP).
The NDC’s National Director of Elections, Elvis Afriye Ankrah addressing a press conference in Ho after a tour of some registration centers in the municipality, accused the NIA of deliberately orchestrating stupendous delays in the registration process causing registrants to sleepover at registration centers only for an average of 60 people to be registered on daily basis.
More than three weeks since the exercise began in the region numerous challenges including network problems, frequent breakdown of machines, long queues, sleeping at registration centres overnight among others were observed.
But he believes is a deliberate attempt by the National Identification Authority (NIA) to ensure they work in favour of the NPP and disenfranchise NDC people in the Volta Region from taking part in the registration.
“The National Identification Authority (NIA) is working in favour of the NPP, all the officials there are NPP officials, the media should send their reporters to the ground to investigate these,” Elvis Afriye Ankrah exclusively told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7
He said technical challenges and poor human behaviours by NIA official have discouraged Voltarians from participating in the registration.
Meanwhile, the exercise is expected to end on 14 August within Volta and expected to continue in the Oti region in the third week of August.
