Some Constituency Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region are angry with the National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko, for allegedly reneging on his promise to provide them with brand new pick-up vehicles to efficiently carry out the activities of the party at the grassroots.
According to them, almost four months after Mr Afoko took office, he has not made any attempt to fulfil the pledge he made in his campaign in the lead up to the Tamale elections.
They have accused him of taking them for a ride since he has failed to honour the agreements arrived at in various meetings with him, one of which was held at Chairman Asare Bediasko’s house.
“He has reneged on everything. None of what we were promised has been implemented. He said he would give each Constituency Chairman one brand new pick-up to do our work. He told us the vehicles would be ready by August 2014, but we haven’t heard from him since,” one Constituency Chairman told DAILY GUIDE.
He said many of his col-leagues are now disappoint-ed and feel betrayed by the failure of Mr Paul Afoko to redeem his pledge.
According to sources, the issue of the unfulfilled promise always finds its way into the discussions of the Constituency Chairmen whenever they meet to dis-cuss the way forward.
“His failure to deal with this issue reflects lamentably on his relations with the party’s grassroots officers.
Probably, he has not thought through the consequences of such a broken promise,” another Constituency Chairman lamented.
During his campaign to be elected chairman, Paul Afoko purportedly promised that he would give NPP Constituency Chairmen brand new pick-ups and other resources to work with if he were voted into office.
“You need vehicles to work with and I will give each one of you [referring to the Constituency Chairmen] brand new pick-ups if I’m voted to office as National Chairman,” he reportedly declared at a meeting in Kumasi prior to the Tamale congress.
