As NPP MPs Shouts “Away” To Bid Akufo-Addo Farewell

After Minister Duffuor’s Gleaming Delivery Of 2012 Budget

News Desk Report

It has never been in doubt that majority of members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) does not support Williams Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo as party flagbearer, following tirades of damaging allegations leveled against his personality, like recently released by Mr. Julian Assange and his whistle-blowing website, the Wikileaks in which the NPP flagbearer has been captured as a notorious womanizer and a drug addict.

Even though the Asante caucus in the NPP has been reported on countless occasions as those seriously against the candidature of the NPP flagbearer, and are hatching all plans to get him removed, since he was yet to be officially recognized by the Electoral Commission (EC) per the constitution as a certified candidate to lead the NPP in the 2012 general elections, the Minority Members in Parliament on Wednesday 16th, November 2011, demonstrated the party’s hatred for the NPP flagbearer.
Unable to hide their disapproval to Akufo-Addo, the Minority NPP MPs in Parliament after listening to the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor make his splendid delivery of the 2012 budget statement and the economic policy of His Excellency Professor John Atta Mills –led NDC government, was left with no option than bid farewell to their flagbearer, who, though, has become so desperate, beating war drums and churning out unpalatable public statements in view of his fruitless ambition.
Signifying their endorsement of the 2012 budget statement unwrapped by the Finance Minister, particularly, on the implementation of a number of pro-poor intervention programmes to be embarked on by the Mills administration next year, to the surprise of Ghanaians in unison shouted “Away” to bid farewell to their party flgabearer, whose vision has been short-landed by the 2012 budget statement.
Even though some among them persistently were heard to be heckling the Minister amidst shouting and jeering, those endorsing the projections in the budget and the past achievements of the current administration were continuously heard shouting the “Away” and bye-bye” phrase to bid Akufo-Addo farewell on his imminent retirement from politics.
As part of measures outlined by the Atta Mills and his NDC government in fulfillment of their Better Ghana Agenda, tax amnesty to companies and individuals operating outside the tax-net will be offered to enable them take advantage of the opportunity to improve their business.
The income tax threshold has also been reviewed with government granting excise duty reduction on sliding scale to companies using local raw materials as substitutes in the production of excisable goods.
To boost agriculture and make it more attractive to Ghanaians, government as part of its pro-poor intervention programme, has expanded the Agricultural Subsidy Programme to include liquid fertilizer (bio-fertilizer) and improved-seeds as well as distribute 165 metric tons of chemical fertilizers and 800,000 litres of liquid fertilizer to framers in 2012.
The few of the pro-poor intervention programmes as mentioned above to be embarked upon by the Atta Mills’s government were what have brought about the new “Away and bye-bye” phrase chanted by the NPP Minority in Parliament, to signify their approval of the 2012 budget statement, and to bid farewell to their leader, Akufo-Addo from the body politics of this country.
