Hohoe, Sept. 30, GNA - The Parliamentary candidates of the two major parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Hohoe-North Constituency have intensified their campaigns to seek the mandate of the teeming Muslims during the Eid Ul Fitr festival. Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive and candidate on the NPP was first to address the crowd soon after Municipal Chief Imam of the Alhlusunna Wal'Jama sect, Nurudeen Zakariah had ended the homily, that formally ended the 30-day fast period at the E.P. Cluster of Schools, venue for the event. He said Islam, which was built on peace and love for one another should be the cardinal part of all Moslems throughout the country, urging them to shun acts that would put Islam into disrepute. Mr Amewu urged the people to reflect on the rapid development projects that had sprung up in the area during the last seven to eight years, which should guide them in their decisions in the December elections.
He said the country was at the cross roads of either embracing continuous development under the NPP or drawback and economic stagnation under the NDC, saying the choice lies with them. Mr Jacoh Prince Hayibor, NDC candidate and Member of Parliament for the area urged the people to vote massively for the NDC for accelerated development, peace and tranquillity. He said the NPP-led government has exhausted its development ideas and it was only proper for Ghanaians to change the political baton, for economic prosperity. Imam Zakariah exalted Allah for the peaceful nature of the event and strength it accorded Moslems to renew their faith and piety, praying that the same disposition be exemplified in the impending general elections. He cautioned Moslems against being used as appendages for conflicts and violent acts, which he said were outside the notable pillars of Islamic principles. 30 Sept. 08
