NPP, NDC commnded for electing Muslims as running mates

Tamale, Oct 03, GNA - The Centre for Islamic Development and Propagation (CIDP), an NGO, has commended President John Agyekum Kufuor and Prof John Evans Ata Mills, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, for nominating Alhaji Aliu Mahama and Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni respectively as their running mates for the December 7 polls.

Mr Yussif Adam Nanyama, Executive Director of the CIDP, said the nomination of the two Muslim was a victory for Islam and urged them to demonstrate quality leadership and brotherliness within the context of Islam. He appealed to Alhaji Mahama and Alhaji Mumuni to use their offices to unite Muslims and northerners and not to create more divisions. " Islamic civilization is based on unity and the two of you must behave as such".

Mr Nanyama was addressing sixty Islamic scholars, opinion leaders and students from second cycle institutions in the Tamale Metropolitan Area at a day's workshop to discuss how to propagate Islam in their communities. He called on Muslim politicians to unite and deliver Muslims from ignorance and abject poverty. ''What Muslims need now is education and employable skills.''

Mr Nanyama advised politicians to stop enumerating problems about the north and Zongo communities to the people because the people were already conversant with the problems. "What politicians should concern themselves is how to address these problems".
