NPP Presidential aspirant promises to resource the media

Kumasi, Dec 11, GNA- Dr Barffour Adjei-Barwuah, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, has promised to resource the media to enable it to contribute effectively to the nation's political and socio-economic development if he achieves his political ambitions. He said the media's role in national development was crucial and there was the need for stakeholders to create a congenial environment for media practitioners to perform their duties.

Dr Adjei-Barwauh was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a meeting with supporters of the party in Kumasi on Monday.

The presidential aspirant said he would formulate comprehensive training programmes to build the capacity of journalists to enable them live up to expectation.

Dr Adjei-Barwauh also said he would work to improve the nation's educational structure with science and technology as the base. He said this would help turn out highly skilled, motivated and development- oriented youth and workforce for increased productivity in all sectors of the nation's endeavours.

Dr Adjei-Barwuah expressed worry that after 50 years of independence "Ghana seems to have lost its spirit of self-reliance and was now depending on donor agencies and the international community for survival."

He said "We are one nation that has no good reason to experience poverty," adding that that he was committed to providing a transparent and selfless leadership. 11 March 07
