Tema, July 16, GNA- The Convention People's Party (CPP) on Sunday called on the electorate to reject both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Elections 2008, saying they had disappointed Ghanaians.
"Reject both parties in Elections 2008 for their values - corruption, divestiture of state properties, insensitivity to the plight of ordinary citizen and bad governance are the same, declared Dr Edmund N. Delle CPP Chairman in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Tema. Taking advantage of the popular catchphrase of the re-denomination exercise; "The Value is the Same," Dr Delle said both parties were the same old currency (Political Philosophy) trying to wear new electoral clothes through their respective Elections 2008 manifesto to deceive the electorate again.
"Ask them about what happened to their past electoral promises in their manifestos, whether during their eight year governance of the country they have been able to fulfil it, practically there are no differences between the two political blocs," the CPP leader stated. He said a CPP government would reverse the "mess in the country's educational system" and pledged that the party, if voted into power, would make education accessible and affordable to all Ghanaians. Dr Delle assured Ghanaians that when the CPP wins power it would revamp all sectors of the economy and improve the living standards of Ghanaians.
A CPP government would improve agriculture and ensure that inputs are made available to farmers and fishermen at all times to help increase productivity to ensure food self-sufficiency in the country. Speaking later at the Tema West Constituency election, Dr Delle noted that the CPP is endowed with potentials capable of leading the nation out of the "economic convulsion," both the NDC and NPP had plunged the country into.
"As a medical practitioner, I believe the nation needs immediate resuscitation and Elections 2008 offers all Ghanaians, irrespective of our political affiliation that opportunity, we must put the interest of the nation above any ideological considerations and vote massively for the CPP as we have the track record of being able to fulfil electoral promises," he stated.
He called on the rank and file of the party to bury their differences and put their full weight behind any flag bearer who would be elected for the 2008 elections, and to work as a team to ensure a resounding victory in the elections.
He also urged the newly elected Tema West Executives to work towards achieving political excellence by leading exemplary and disciplined life.
"You must not allow destructive and negative tendencies to stand in your way towards achieving electoral victory in Elections 2008".
Mr Bright Akwetey, a leading member of 'The Patriots', commended Tema West for being the first constituency in the Greater Accra region to successfully organise its congress in a peaceful environment since the Central Committee of the party gave the green light.
He urged the Constituency to work hard to win the Tema West seat for the party, saying "the seat is critical for our progress, move to every corner of the constituency and assure the people that the CPP is back on track to give meaning to Ghana's independence.
"It is about time the CPP is voted into power, especially in this era when the whole continent is looking for Unity proposed by our Great Leader Dr Kwame Nkrumah decades ago" he said.
Mr Michael Badu, Tema Municipal Electoral Officer, who supervised the elections, declared Mr Daniel Essel, the elected constituency Chairman; Mr Francis King as Constituency Organizer; Ms Oliver Awurabena Hammond, Women Organizer; and Ms Roselyn Effah as the Youth Organizer. Those who were retained unopposed were Mr John Hessel and Mr Iddris Hanson first and second Vice respectively; Mr J. D. K. Abekah, Constituency Secretary; Mr J. Y. Mensah, Assistance Constituency Secretary; Mr Kingsley Kankam, Assistant Youth Organizer; Ms Elizabeth Arhin, Assistant Women Organizer; and Mr Godfred Appai, Assistance Organizer.
The Greater Accra Regional chairman, Dr Nii Gborbilor Fleischer, who swore in the elected officers charged them to work hard for total victory of the party in Elections 2008. 16 July 07
