The Progressive People's Party (PPP) has asked voters in the Efutu Constituency of the Central Region to punish the NDC and the NPP by voting massively against them on 7th December 2012. The PPP has also urged the youth to reject the two parties for inciting them to engage in violent behaviour.
Supporters of the NDC and NPP in the constituency clashed on Monday and left more than ten people from both sides with various degrees of injury.
The NPP's parliamentary candidate alleged that the incumbent NDC candidate had recruited "macho" men who are not from the constituency to intimidate and disrupt the campaign activities of his opponents.
On the other hand, the NDC candidate points his fingers at the NPP candidate for his overly aggressive behaviour and using unemployed youth in the town to insult him and threaten NDC supporters.
The PPP said it was not surprised as the usual “blame game of who is worse than the other", was being played out at the constituency level in Efutu”.
“It is a well-known fact that the PPP Efutu candidate, Nana Ofori Owusu has been a model of discipline, respect and good demeanor during this 2012 campaign. He has come out tops in all the debates held in the constituency pulling out one solution after another to solve the problems in the constituency. He comes from a highly respected family known for its service to the people in the constituency and has sworn to uphold that enviable tradition.
“He had pointed to his record of successfully lobbying government ministries and agencies to bring electricity, farmer loans and education facilities to the constituency,” the PPP stated in a release issued on Wednesday by its National Secretary, Kofi Asamoah Siaw.
The statement described Mr. Mike Hammah, the incumbent MP and the NDC’s candidate as “a monumental failure, a huge disappointment who could not use his status as Minister of State to help his people. Instead, he is accused of only serving his personal needs and that of his close NDC friends.
“The NPP candidate is considered too boastful and quick to resort to intemperate language with no record of being a selfless man”.
