NPP gave the most expensive haircut with Bawumia as the 'chief barber' - Ofosu Ampofo

The former National Chairman of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asserted that the NPP government, under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the head of the Economic Management Team, has established the most expensive haircut in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia's administration undertook a Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) to meet IMF conditionalities as part of the government's effort to reduce the country's debt-to-GDP ratio. This led to a haircut on many Ghanaians' savings and investments.

According to Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Dr. Bawumia is the 'chief barber' of this most expensive and wicked haircut.

"Under the NPP government, they have established the most expensive barbering shop in Ghana. The most expensive barbering shop in Ghana was established under the NPP government, with Dr. Bawumia as the chief barber. And what they do is that, whether you like it or not, they force you and give you a haircut," he lamented.

"In fact, we all know in economics that the government is the lender of last resort; if you have money and you want to keep it safe, the only place you can send it is to the bank because any time you need it, the bank will not die. Any time you need the money, you can always pick it up.

It is only under Dr. Bawumia’s administration as head of the economic management team that people put their money in the bank or investments, and when the time comes for them to get their money, the government says, 'No, I won’t give you your money. Come and sit with me, and I will negotiate and take some of the money and give you some.' So that is what they call a haircut, whether you have hair or not," Mr. Ampofo added.

He further reiterated that it is the most expensive haircut because it will take away a substantial part of your money or investment.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo was addressing a mini rally at Kpatinga in the Gushegu Constituency of the Northern Region as part of the vice-presidential candidate of the NDC, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s campaign tour of the region.
