It appears the convincing grip the New Patriotic Party has over the Central Region of Ghana, following the results of the 2016 election is fast loosening.

This is according to controversial Member of Parliament for Assin Central Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, who, without mincing words said the favour and goodwill and energy that brought the party victory in the last elections is fast waning and that even though he and his team are working to stem the negative tide, Central Region votes of NPP is reducing. “Central Region is like Florida, it swings anyhow”, he measured.

Speaking on Asempa FM Tuesday afternoon, he said the people of the central region are generally disenchanted and disappointed about a lot of issues key among which include how they were treated regarding appointments and other perks that come with power; and how MCEs and DCEs are treating the grassroots of the party. He alleged that some Municipal and District Chief Executives of the region “dont understand politics” and were, by their conduct, making the President and the NPP highly unpopular in the eyes of the people”.

Roping in the Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan, the MP said “people are complaining about the Regional Minister too. They are saying that he doesn’t listen to them. That guy was a fantastic Secretary, but he should know that as Minister things are different. He can’t satisfy everyone. I haven’t sat with him yet. He hasn’t called me. We haven’t spoken”.

Asked by the host, Philip Osei Bonsu whether he had reached out to the minister, Mr Agyapong said he has not done that and that the Minister should know “me Kennedy Agyapong I’m a big guy who won’t be chasing him for a meeting”, the outspoken lawmaker said.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong however said one year was “too short a period to assess him (the Regional Minister), but we have a lot of work to do”, he said.

Kwamena Duncan who until his appointment was the NPP’s Central Regional Secretary was appointed by President Nana Akufo Addo in a move widely hailed.
