A Deputy Minister of Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has debunked claims that the panel of eminent persons appointed by the Electoral Commission to deal with the issue of bloated voters register recommended voter validation in its report.

According to him, the main opposition party, NPP, has been lying about the Voters’ Register.

He made the comments on his Official Facebook wall Friday.

“Fact: No where in the report of the panel set up to look into claims by the NPP over the voter register was validation recommended. NPP has been lying throughout this unnecessary debate over the register,” he posted on his page.

The issue of voter validation has been a contentious issue ever since the eminent panel submitted its report to the EC in December last year.

Pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance in collaboration with the opposition New Patriotic Party and other groups demonstrated against the Electoral Commission in the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi,on Wednesday over the issue .

The demonstrators said their action was aimed at drawing attention to the potential threat to the security of the nation if the EC goes ahead to use the current voters register in the 2016 general elections.

They also want the EC to roll out plans for the implementation of voter validation recommended by its own panel of experts.
