NPP must not show concern over our running mate matters – Asiedu Nketia

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to desist from poking their nose into the selection of a running mate for former President John Mahama.

According to the party, “it is not a matter for the NPP to be worried about since they are yet to even select a presidential candidate for the party but making a mockery of themselves by discussing issues that are not related to them since it has consistently asked the former president to concentrate on selecting a running mate.”

But Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, noted that the NPP was making a mockery of themselves as they had not selected a flag bearer and asking someone who had selected a flag bearer to select a running mate.

“The NDC is the only party that has elected a flag bearer for the 2020 general election, it shows our preparedness ahead of the elections,” he said but when it was pointed out to Mr Nketia it was obvious President Nana Akufo-Addo will be presidential candidate and Dr Mahammudu Bawumia his running mate and quizzed, “if it is obvious President Akufo-Addo will be the candidate, why have they opened nomination for people to contest.”

Mr Nketia described the President as a “confused” person following his comments on former President Mahama’s call on the Electoral Commission to tread cautiously over decision to compile new voters’ register and insisted that he lacked understanding of the different scenarios.

“I believe the President is the one confused, we have different procedures for whatever we do, since inception of the 4th Republic, we’ve had different approaches to resolving electoral issues, the Electoral Commission allowed the NPP and other parties to submit views on call for them to compile a new voters’ register.

”Later it set up a committee to probe the matter and recommend whether it will be prudent to compile a new voters’ register, after the processes, it was agreed the call was not necessary, the scenarios are different, under President Mahama, EC allowed for different stakeholders to submit their views to investigate and conclusion accepted by all.

“The President’s response is unfortunate and a disappointment considering controversies surrounding removal of former chairperson of the commission and plan by the government to compile new voters’ register,” Mr Nketia slammed.
