The Minister of Education Mathew Opoku Prempeh on Saturday stormed the Akyem Oda constituency in the Eastern Region to campaign for the incumbent Member of Parliament William Agyapong Quaitoo to be retained as Parliamentary candidate for ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) in December 2020 polls.
The Education Minister in a meeting with the delegates persuaded them to vote for the MP who is Chairman of the Education Committee in Parliament saying he is needed in the Law Chamber.
He reportedly the delegates that the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy is by dint of hard work and contribution of the Education Committee which the MP chairs.
The Education Minister who is Member of Parliament for Manhyia South but sailed through uncontested in the primaries additionally told the delegates that Mr. William Quaitoo is needed in the House to help the passage of some critical bills on education.
However, the action of the Minister has reportedly angered supporters of other candidates accusing him of interfering in their local politics.
Some of the angry youth, according to reports, mobilized in an attempt to besiege the meeting venue to stop the Minister but were spoken to abort their plans.
Alexander Akwasi Acquah, a journalist and the Chief Executive Officer of Community Hospitals Group, Mr Richard Asante Bediako, an Accra-based businessman and Mr Edward Kwaku Aboagye, Financial Accountant, will be challenging the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Mr William Agyapong Quaitoo in the June 20 Parliamentary Primaries.
