Traders from thirty-eight (38) communities in and around the Ahafo Ano South West district in the Ashanti Region have thrown their support behind the selection of Akosua Frema Osei Opare as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate for the 2024 presidential elections.
The traders from Kunsi, Barniekrom, Tepa, Domeabra, Abuakwa, Bomaa, Mpasaaso, Hiamankwa, and others are confident that the candidature of the Chief of Staff at the Presidency will be a major boost for the party's chances of winning the elections.
They noted that they are aware of the contributions of the Chief of Staff to national development, especially the Free SHS Policy, which has gained popularity, adding that it was through her wise counsel to the government that it has become successful.
The traders have thus appealed to the NPP leadership and the flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to select Akosua Frema Osei Opare as the running mate.
Addressing the media at Kunsu Market Day on Friday, the spokesperson for the traders, Elvis Ofosu Kwarteng, stated that Akosua Frema Osei Opare has recently been admired by all people of political and ethnic backgrounds in the Ahafo Ano South West district.
He explained that the NPP must settle on someone who can appeal for votes not only from the NPP but also from other political parties, and the Chief of Staff qualifies for that.
"We may be at Kunsu, but we are aware of the good works, including the benevolent activities of Frema Osei Opare towards market women, the youth, and children of Ghana, and so we are sure that with such a character as running mate to Dr. Bawumia, we are sure to galvanize massive support for the NPP in the December 7 polls," Mr. Kwarteng stated.
"With the diverse backgrounds of people in Ahafo Ano South West, it is important that the NPP select a running mate who could best appeal to the people and attract their votes to the NPP fold, and for us, Madam Frema Osei Opare is ideal," the spokesperson stressed.
Mr. Kwarteng noted that what most people in the communities are looking for is someone who could best show concern for their living conditions and work to support them.
The spokesperson said the NPP government constructed some sheds and stalls for them at the marketplace, but they are in tatters; the floor of the market and the main arena get flooded anytime it rains heavily.
With what they have seen at the Bantama, Kejetia, and Race Course markets, the traders are confident Madam Frema Opare is the best person to help them out, as she has done in the aforementioned markets.
"The NPP government constructed this market, but there are no public utility services or places of convenience. However, we believe the selection of Frema Opare would enable her to extend support to us and other markets across Ghana," Kwarteng posited.
