Former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has expressed strong disapproval of the actions of the Electoral Commission, led by Jean Mensa, in the conduct of the recently held general elections. She described the Commission’s handling of the electoral process as deeply flawed and damaging to its credibility.

According to her, the decisions and actions taken by the Commission have undermined public trust in Ghana’s democratic system. She argued that the move to change electoral rules mid-process appears to favour one political party and disenfranchise the electorate. This, she noted, not only tarnishes the image of the Commission but also erodes the confidence Ghanaians once had in its independence.

She highlighted the cases of parliamentary seats won by women, alleging that the Electoral Commission has failed to declare these victories, further perpetuating gender inequality in Ghana’s political sphere. Nana Yaa Jantuah criticized attempts to take these seats away from the rightful winners, describing such actions as unjust and an affront to the progress of women in leadership.

The situation, she stated, points to a broader issue of manipulation and interference in the electoral system, which jeopardizes the principles of fairness and transparency. She stressed that the actions of Jean Mensa and her team have caused significant harm to the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process, creating doubt in the minds of many Ghanaians about the authenticity of election outcomes.

She also expressed concern over the behaviour of political parties, particularly their inability to accept electoral defeat gracefully. Nana Yaa Jantuah emphasized that democracy is about respecting the will of the people, and any attempt to manipulate systems for partisan advantage only deepens the public’s disillusionment.
