Nasara Club celebrates NPP victory

Ho, Dec. 10, GNA - Jubilant youth, mainly members of the Nasara Club, Muslim wing of NPP in Hohoe poured on the streets on Thursday night to celebrate the victory of President John Agyekum Kufuor in the December 7 Presidential. They sang, danced, yelled slogans as they moved to the residency of Mr Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive, who feted them to soft drinks. Before the declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Peter John Amewu, the NPP candidate for Hohoe-North, who was defeated, hosted supporters to a party to mark the birthday of President Kufuor.

The all night celebrations was against the backdrop of muted discontent among a vast majority of people in the region over the polls results which their pet candidate, Professor John Evans Atta Mills of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost. In Ho, the regional capital, there were pockets of jubilations along the principal streets.

The celebrants, some in pickups, draped in party colours paraded the streets looked on by a largely disinterested populace who went about their normal business.

A young man observed that the mock burial of "Kukrudu" (NPP) by a group of young men in town last Sunday rather heralded the resurrection of the NPP that day and the final burial of their preferred party, the NDC.

The NPP won only one seat in the Nkwanta North Constituency of the region by Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan with 6,178 votes as against 5,424 by the NDC, 123 for the CPP, 3,678 for Dr. Joseph Manboah-Rockson an Independent and 518 for Mr Abdulai Fulamba also an Independent candidate.
