Nat’l Economic Forum should be yearly – Econs Prof.

Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Ghana Professor Peter Quartey has suggested that the National Economic Forum should be organized every year “so that we share ideas and see how we can move the country forward”.

Professor Quartey insisted that the forum is long overdue.

He was speaking on TV3’s Business Focus on Monday, May 12.

Professor Quartey said he expects the four-day programme to be “very” participatory and “I expect it to include people of all descent”.

He added: “I expect it to invite people with information and knowledge to share on how to move our economy forward.”

The National Economic Forum began on Tuesday, May 13 and it is aimed at discussing the challenges with the country’s economy with a view to create a national consensus on the way forward.

It is being held under the theme: “Changing the narrative: Building a national consensus for economic and social transformation”.

Among participants at the forum are former Finance Ministers, Former Bank of Ghana governors, economists, parliamentarians, business leaders, representatives of trade associations and members of the academia.

The programme is under the chairmanship of Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur but was opened by President John Dramani Mahama.
