The Minority Chief Whip, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has stated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not initiated any new airport projects in the country.
During an interview with TV3 in Tamale at the launch of the NDC’s campaign on Saturday, July 27, 2024, he emphasized that currently, no airport in Ghana, whether newly built or rehabilitated, can be attributed to the ruling NPP.
He noted that airport expansion projects underway were started by the previous Mahama administration and then completed by the NPP.
“There is no airport in Ghana that is the brainchild of the NPP. President Mahama rehabilitated Kotoka Terminal 2, and Terminal 3 was entirely new under his administration. The phases of Kumasi Airport that are now completed were also started during Mahama's tenure and finished by the NPP."
The vision for these airports did not originate from the NPP. For instance, Tamale Airport, which boasts the longest runway in the country, had plans dating back to before their time. The NPP cannot claim credit for this airport. They need to clarify when their involvement in its planning began,” he explained.
He also highlighted the significant importance of the Northern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“Our party has historically received tremendous support from this region. We have prioritized development efforts here whenever in power, focusing on infrastructure such as roads and airports, as well as critical interventions in water supply and agriculture. Despite attempts by our opponents to distract us, we remain steadfast in delivering our message and focusing on the needs of the people,” he said.
