Obed Asamoah Now With NPP ?

Credible information available to the New Democrat newspaper has revealed that Dr. Obed Asamoah, former National Chairman of the NDC who resigned from the party after the Koforidua congress in which he lost miserably has now teamed up with the Minister for National Security, Francis Poku, to prevent the NDC from winning the 2008 elections and the NPP winning it.

Dr. Asamoah’s party was scheduled to be launched on Independence Day, March 6, 2006 but the launching never came on because a number of highly placed Ghanaians whom he had contacted to join the party before its launching had disappointed him by refusing to be part of his party. The man he now sees as his mentor, Capt.Rtd. Kojo Tsikata has also refused t be part of his party and has in fact tried to talk him out of forming a new party.

But Obed, buoyed by the hundreds of thousands of dollars Francis Opoku is giving him to form the new party is determined to go on with his scheme. Some NDC members who left the party to join Obed form the Democratic Freedom party have returned quietly to the NDC without Obed’s knowledge after finding out the party was formed only to prevent the NDC from winning the elections and help the NPP win the election 2008. One of these returnees, a lawyer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he never knew Obed’s true intentions until he started working closely with him.

He revealed that Baba Camara, the former deputy treasurer of the NDC whom Obed desperately wanted chosen as running mate to Prof. Mills for the 2004 elections was the go-between Obed and his new Godfather, Mr. Francis Poku. He revealed that over $200,000 has been given to Dr. Obed Asamoah by the Minister for National Security through Baba Camara to fund the party. The task given Obed by Francis Poku is the luring of NDC members to the DFP to create the impression that NDC is collapsing. Resignation letters have been prepared for those who would be lured to sign and be given to the press for publication.

Dr. Asamoah has since been on a membership drive in the Zongo’s, Ashaiman and in the Volta Region to convince Francis Poku that he was really doing damage to the NDC so that more funds would be released to him.He has however met stiff opposition from NDC constituency executives wherever he went with most challenging him for betraying the NDC. Realizing that his membership drive is failing, he has shifted his attention to the peripheries of the major cities in the country where unsuspecting NDC members are given money after agreeing to resign publicly from the NDC.

Meanwhile the New Democrat is preparing a dossier on Francis Poku’s activities that would shock Ghanaians to the marrow of their bones.
