Obuasi NDC chases Kwaku Kwarteng

Members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Obuasi West constituency of the Ashanti region are on the heels of the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, demanding accountability of his stewardship as MP.

At a press conference in Obuasi yesterday, the NDC supporters stressed that “As residents of the constituency, we are entitled to know what our MP has done and is doing with his share of the Common Fund to which we all contribute.

“Just like Ghanaians demand accountability from President John Dramani Mahama and justifiably so, we, residents of Obuasi West, are demanding accountability from our MP,” they said.

The Obuasi West Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Mr. David Adama, who read the press statement, noted that it was interesting to note that Obuasi has two MPs both of whom are members of the NPP.

According to him, “We can visibly see the projects MP for Obuasi East, Mr. Edward Ennin, has undertaken with his share of the Common Fund.”

“Mention can be made of two-storey Nurses' Quarters at the Obuasi Government Hospital, 1No.8-unit Public Toilet Facility at the Obuasi Government Hospital, MP's Functional Office at Low Cost, Brahabebome, a library complex at Ramia, construction of about eight (8) boreholes currently ongoing, over a hundred street bulbs distributed, just to mention but a few.

“It is instructive to mention that Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng has received over 4.7 billion old Ghana Cedis as his share of the Common Fund ever since he became MP,” he added.

“We respectfully demand answers to the following questions: What has Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng done with his share of the Common Fund? Why spend Common Fund on the purchase of Hi Target, an inferior pirated textile from China, which is seriously collapsing the Ghanaian textiles industry? How has Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng represented us in Parliament?

…That how come Hon. Ennin, who receives same funds as Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng does receive and sometimes same amount, is able to do projects with his share of the Common Fund and there does not seem to be a single remarkable project undertaken singlehandedly by the Hon. Member for Obuasi West? That come to think of it, the rationale behind the MP's share of the Common Fund is for vital projects and interventions within the constituency.

“…that is how come it is sometimes referred to as the Constituency Project Fund. Before the Obuasi West legislator comes to seek our mandate again, he should render to the good people of Obuasi West account of his stewardship.

In this end, the Obuasi West NDC implored Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng to provide answers to the afore-posed questions which have remained unanswered.

He also called on the good people of Obuasi West to join supporters of the NDC to demand accountability from Mr. Kwarteng because “we deserve better from him.”
