Oforikrom constituency of NDC delegates' congress held in Kumasi

Kumasi, Oct. 30, GNA - The Oforikrom constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at its delegate's congress held in Kumasi on Saturday elected a nine-member executive for a three-year term of office.

Those elected unopposed are Mr Hamidu Mohammed, chairman, Mr E.O. Terlarbi, first vice-chairman, Mr Adam Karim, second vice-chairman, Mr Mustapha Sulemana, secretary and Madam Amina Johnson, women's organizer. Others elected are Mr Lawrence Governor, assistant secretary, Mr Evans Kwabla Ablordepey, organizer, Mr George Abofra, youth organizer and Mr Hope Keku, treasurer.

Addressing the delegates, Mr Emmanuel Nti-Fordjour, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, said the Positive Change of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians and that majority, of the people are still facing many problems including higher cost of living, education, unemployment and others. He appealed to the people to support the NDC to wrest power from the NPP in the 2008 elections.

Mr. Nti-Fordjour stated that the inability for the NPP government to nominate a substantive Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive has been a source of worry to many residents because the problem is impeding the development of the metropolis.

He therefore, urged the government as a matter of urgency to nominate a candidate for the position to ensure the speedy development of the area.

He asked the supporters of the party to be vigilant and adopt effective campaign strategies to ensure resounding victory of the party in the 2008 elections.

Mr Sly Akakpovi, Regional Secretary of the NDC, who swore the executives into office, charged them to work harder to enable them to discharge their duties diligently.

Mr Mustapha Sulemana, the secretary, said lack of office accommodation has been a major problem confronting the constituency and appealed to the headquarters and the regional secretariat of the party to assist address the problem to enhance activities and programmes in the constituency.
