Ohene Agyekum denies allegations against NDC

Bekwai (Ash), Nov 12, GNA - Mr Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Executive Council Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied allegations that the party would arrest and imprison all the top hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when it came to power.

He described the allegation as baseless and that some NPP supporters were spreading it to discredit the NDC, which he said, was the people's choice.

Mr Ohene Agyekum was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Bekwai in the Amansie East District of Ashanti on Thursday during the NDC delegates' congress to elect the regional youth and women's organisers. The one-time Ashanti Regional Minister is in serious contention for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the party.

He said when elected as the regional chairman, he would unite all factions of the party to ensure cohesion and co-operation and also visit all the branches and constituencies to know problems and see how best they could be solved.

Mr Ohene Agyekum said he would form a Council of Elders of the party should he win the regional chairmanship to assist him run the party in the Region.

He predicted that the NDC would win about 30 per cent of the presidential votes and 10 out of the 39 parliamentary seats, all in Ashanti in the 2008 election.

He advised supporters to refrain from backbiting and other acts that would retard the progress of the party and instead organise house-to-house campaigns to win the 2008 election.
