The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has expressed strong disapproval of what he perceives as the selective activism of certain clergy and civil society groups in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC Youth Manifesto at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Monday, August 12, 2024, Mr. Opare Addo criticized these groups for their past actions against former President John Dramani Mahama and their current silence on alleged corruption within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

Mr. Opare Addo accused the current government of rallying “self-centred clergymen and women, corrupt civil society groups, and rented media” to tarnish the reputation of Mr. Mahama during his administration.

He lamented that these same groups, who were vocal during Mr. Mahama’s tenure, have now gone silent despite what he described as “wanton acts of corruption and state capture” under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.

“These men of God and religious groups and civil society have suddenly disappeared and become deaf, dumb, and blind to the corruption and state capture unleashed on Ghanaians by the Bawumia and Akufo-Addo administration. Their hands are now full from the loot they are stealing,” Mr. Opare Addo asserted.

The NDC Youth Organiser issued a stern warning to the clergy and other groups, cautioning them against repeating their past actions of criticizing Mahama while remaining silent on current issues.

“We know that their consultants are at work again. We’re serving a cold warning to these nation wreckers that the Ghanaian youth will not sit idle and watch you do what you did,” he emphasized.

“If you respond with one, we’ll respond with seven,” Mr. Opare Addo added.
