The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for a free, fair, and transparent general election in December.
Otumfuo emphasized that such principles are crucial for maintaining peace and ensuring Ghanaians accept the election outcome.
The Asantehene stressed that transparency and trustworthiness would help political parties and citizens uphold the election's credibility and preserve national harmony.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, 27 September 2024, when the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, officially introduced herself to him, Otumfuo underscored the importance of peaceful elections, noting that only free, fair, and transparent elections will ensure the sustainability of the nation's peace.
The Asantehene praised Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s humility, respect, and dedication, noting her outstanding work as the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast. He urged her to maintain these values as she campaigns with NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and to assist in clearly communicating the party’s policies to Ghanaians.
The visit also included a courtesy call to the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, who offered prayers for Prof. Opoku-Agyemang's success in the December elections. The Asantehemaa highlighted the potential for this milestone to further advance women's empowerment in Ghana.
During the visit, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed her gratitude for the royal blessings and reiterated her commitment to the NDC’s vision for national development.
