The Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that its chairman, Kofi Ennor, campaigned against the party’s interest in the 2024 elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the NDC in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency clarified that at no point during the 2024 election campaign did Kofi Ennor advocate for ‘skirt and blouse’ voting.
The party denied allegations that Kofi Ennor campaigned for John Dramani Mahama in the presidential race while opposing the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Kofi Arko Nokoe.
“A recent publication on the front page of the New Crusading Guide falsely claimed that the constituency chairperson of Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira campaigned for 'skirt and blouse' voting before the 2024 General Election.
“We, the constituency executives and grassroots members of the NDC in the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency, categorically deny this allegation and find it necessary to set the record straight. This baseless accusation is not only a gross misrepresentation of facts but also a deliberate attempt to mislead the public,” parts of the statement read.
The party emphasised that if the chairman had indeed campaigned against the parliamentary candidate, the issue would have been reported to the party’s leadership, and appropriate measures would have been taken.
They further challenged the individuals behind these "spurious allegations" aimed at tarnishing the chairman’s image to present evidence if they insisted she campaigned against the party’s candidate.
The party also questioned the timing of the allegations, suggesting that they were part of a scheme by individuals vying for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.
“One would have expected that if these allegations being peddled had any substance, they would have been reported through the appropriate channels within the party, such as the Regional Executive Committee or the National Executive Committee, for stiffer sanctions as per Article 40 of the party’s constitution. Unfortunately, those behind these malicious claims did not see the need to bring this matter to the party’s hierarchy but instead took it to the media.
“Additionally, one would expect that such serious allegations would be backed with evidence. However, no evidence has been provided to substantiate these false claims. Another question to ask is, if the 2024 elections took place on December 7, 2024, why are these allegations being made now? It is evident that this publication is a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of those vying for the MCE position.
“These allegations are nothing more than a figment of the imagination of proponents and allies of those who believe their candidate did not perform well during the vetting process for the MCE position, which took place on Saturday, January 18, 2025. These individuals are doing everything possible to ensure their candidate, despite underperforming during the vetting, is included in the list of applicants shortlisted for Accra,” the statement added.
