The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah (Goasomanhene), has backed comments made by former President John Dramani Mahama on chiefs and the clergy not being candid about the performance of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking during an engagement between former President Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and members of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Goasomanhene indicated that pastors and the clergy are behaving as if they are living in a different country.
He accused them (the pastors and the clergy) of not being truthful about the happenings in the country.
“Our pastors and chiefs are not saying things as they are. Today, everybody is pretending as if they are not Ghanaians. Today, nobody is a Ghanaian, nobody is a pastor,” the chief lamented in the Twi dialect.
The paramount chief went on to urge the NDC flagbearer to ensure the retrieval of all state resources looted under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration, while also ensuring the prosecution of all culpable persons.
“I am pleading with you, if you get the opportunity to be president, go after everyone who has looted state money because there is none left except the one left in pockets; that which has been kept under people’s beds is what you will have to retrieve. So, we are begging you, jail whoever deserves to be jailed,” he appealed.
What Mahama said:
Speaking at a mini rally in the Okaikwei North constituency on September 15, 2024, Mahama criticised the clergy, traditional leaders, and Civil Society Organizations for not holding the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, which he described as a useless government, accountable for its poor governance.
He questioned why traditional leaders fail to address the economic hardships and instead offer praise to the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We are all living in this country. We have pastors, imams, chiefs, and Civil Society Organizations here, yet they only seem to have an issue when the NDC complains. We must all come together and unite to hold the government accountable and speak out against the ongoing mismanagement.
“However, when NPP members visit traditional leaders and pastors, the only response they receive is praise, endorsements, and further blessings for their supposed good work, rather than being told the truth about their poor governance. You want to win power with your useless government?” he asked.
