Cape Coast, Dec. 6, GNA – Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) said on Tuesday that the Party would concentrate on winning more parliamentary seats throughout the country, come the 2012 general election.
He stated that so far, its target was to make random selection of at least 36 candidates in certain constituencies to facilitate its vision of wining about 30 per cent seats in the Northern, Northern Volta, Brong Ahafo and other regions.
At the Central Regional Delegates Congress of the PNC, Alhaji Ramadan who is seeking re-election as the National Chairman said he is the best person to move the party ahead because he has the expertise to do so.
“I will work harder to change the face of the Party”, he said, adding that the PNC is more organised than before with a large number of the youth actively involved in its activities.
This, he said, is an indication of a very good sign for the PNC in the next elections.
On a possible PNC- Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) merger, he said it would be possible if both parties agree to compromise for a merger.
He said he would pursue the course under his chairmanship.
The Party is currently awaiting a court ruling to enable it carry out its National Congress to elect its flagbearer and other national executives.
Three others, David Nibi, a farmer, Thomas Akum Yong, businessman and Dr Edward Gyedere, a Dean at the University of Development Studies are vying for the chairman position.
Mr Hassan Ayariga, an aspiring Presidential candidate debunked speculations that the PNC is for Northerners, stressing that it embraces all Ghanaians just like the other major parties in the country.
He pledged that with his youthful exuberance he would together with his youthful team ensure a progressive change in the country, saying that leadership is not for the aged as perceived but rather for people who are capable.
The Regional executives elected at the Congress were Alhaji Mohammed, Regional Chairman, Alhaji Mukaila Vice Chairman, McDonald Kobbs Tongo, Secretary, James B. Sam, Organiser, Celestina Nangbali Women’s Organiser, Baba Mohammed, Treasurer and Aron Ato Davies, Youth Organiser.
