PPP pledges to streamline health insurance

A government of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) would streamline the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make it run efficiently.

Mr. Lawrence Appiah, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, said the list of diseases covered by the insurance would also be expanded to make the scheme beneficial to large section of the population.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he hinted of subsidizing insurance premium paid by people in rural and deprived communities

Again, an Nduom-led government would do everything to remove delays in the reimbursement of care providers, he stated, adding that, it would bring conclusion to the chronic repayment delays, crippling the operation of the facilities.

Mr. Appiah noted that the people could only become economically productive when they were healthy.

It was for this reason that promoting access to quality health care would be made a key pillar of the nation’s development agenda.

He also promised the supply of more ambulances and other vital logistics to the facilities to aid effective response to medical emergencies to save lives.

There would be substantial increase in Community-based Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compounds, he added.

Mr. Appiah said the PPP had well-thought out policies to transform the lives of Ghanaians and appealed to voters to give their votes to the party in the coming election.
