Progressive People’s Party (PPP) parliamentary aspirant for the Manhyia North constituency in the Ashanti Region, Abena Amponsah Biritwum, has advised the people of Manhyia North to vote her as she hold exceptional leadership skills to unify them.

According to her, the constituency is supposed to be one big family where there is lots of love, togetherness and understanding among all of them but it has rather not seen peace from its very inception in 2012.

Ms. Amponsah Biritwum noted that politicians with weak leadership skills always love to divide the people so they can rule them for a long time but people with quality leadership skills rather unify their subjects and lead them in peace and harmony.

The PPP parliamentary aspirant made these comments in an interview with Today newspaper after submitting her nomination forms to the Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Lawrence Appiah.

Maabena as she is fondly called, until now was a news anchor at Kumasi-based Kapital Radio, but has upon making public her plan to contest the Manhyia North seat, resigned.

Her motivation to contest the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, she said, was her passion to serve and better the lives of people in need.

“I have always loved to serve and to help people in need and it is something I have been doing in a long while so I even have a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called AAB Foundation through which I have been helping several needy people but now I want to extend my services to all the people of Manhyia North,” she pointed out.

The PPP parliamentary aspirant who seemed poised to win the upcoming parliamentary elections maintained that “I have come to render proper service to my people in Manhyia North.”

Manhyia South

Her colleague at Manhyia South constituency, Richard Boadu, who also filed his nomination forms, expressed confidence that victory would be his and the PPP after the upcoming General Elections.

Mr. Boadu said the nation needs a new crop of politicians who are “affable and humble” and can easily be approached by everybody in the constituency.

He said the youth of Manhyia South constituency need a role model, and not someone who they could barely relate to.

“For us in the PPP, we see such position as opportunities to serve the people just like our flag-bearer, (Edwumawura), is doing for Ghana and the world now. That is why we say they should give us and our leader, Dr. Nduom, a chance to show them what real governance is,” he stated passionately.

Kofi Broni, as he is affectionately called, assured the people of Manhyia South and Ghana of a good example of political leadership should they vote for him and Dr. Nduom, come this year’s elections.

Regional chairman

The Ashanti regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Lawrence Appiah, who received their forms, also encouraged them not to relent on their efforts in winning the two seats for the PPP.

Mr. Appiah maintained that “there is no party in Ghana with original ideas like the PPP” and was hopeful the party will pull a huge surprise this year.”

He argued that everyone had seen how well-structured and united the PPP has been these few years of its formation, making it very attractive to discerning and floating voters.

Refuting references to the Ashanti Region as the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Appiah said the voting pattern in the region would change after this year’s elections as the people have now gotten a better option than the NPP which option is the Progressive People's Party.
