People joined NDC because of their conviction for the Party

Kumasi, Nov.8, GNA - Mr Alex Sawyer Attivor, the Asokwa Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said most people joined the NDC based on their conviction and affection for the pragmatic policies and vision of the party.

He dismissed the notion that most members of the NDC joined the Party just because they wanted to make monetary gains.

Mr Attivor was speaking at the inauguration of the NDC campaign team for the Constituency in Kumasi on Sunday.

The 22-member team, with Mr Samuel Osei as its chairman, would be expected to initiate workable strategies to assist the NDC canvass for votes to enable it win the 2004 General Election.

Mr Attivor who is also the Chairman of the NDC Metropolitan

Co-ordinating Council, an embodiment of NDC Executive members of the six constituencies in Kumasi, said "the fact that many NDC members continue to enjoy even after the Party's exist from power, is ample indication that people joined the NDC for its vision and leadership style, and not because they wanted to get money".

Mr Ismael Butler, NDC Parliamentary candidate for Asokwa, advised Ghanaians against giving the New Patriotic Party (NPP) a second chance since the NPP could not salvage the country from its economic doldrums, as pledged by the Party.

He said the NPP made a lot of promises during the 2000 General Election "but turned it back and a blind eye to all the promises as soon as it was given the mandate to rule the country".

Mr Butler said his first priority would be to liaise with the various non-governmental organisations to improve upon sanitary conditions and improve schools in the area if elected as Member of Parliament for the area.

Mr Mohammed Akanbisah, NDC propaganda secretary for the constituency, asked members and supporters of the Party not to yield to any threats but to campaign for votes for the Party. He also appealed to the electorate to turn out in the numbers and vote early on 7 December.
