The Legal Resources Centre (LRC), a human rights non-governmental organization, has stepped up its efforts to equip politicians and other stakeholders about the workings of the electoral court.
LRC is seeking to empower stakeholders on the types of offences for which an action may be brought to an electoral court and special rules that pertain to the operation of the court.
In a paper to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday, LRC said specific courts have been set aside to hear election cases before, during and after the 2012 elections.
The LRC is therefore organizing two workshops in Accra and Tamale on November 15th and 27 respectively to ensure the speedy resolution of conflicts arising as a result of the elections.
The workshops on the theme: βThe Elections Court: The Technicalities of Instituting an Election Case,β will be addressed by Mr Justice Vincent C. R. A. C Crabbe and Justice L. L. Mensah, Supervising High Court Judge, Tamale.
The LRC workshops are aimed at strengthening the judiciary to deal with human rights abuses during Election 2012.
According to LRC in the past, election disputes had to go through the regular courts that were already bogged down with cases, which tended to delay the peaceful resolution of conflicts that festered as a result of the protracted adjudication.
The project is being funded by STAR-Ghana, a multi- donor pooled funding agency.
