At Wa, hundreds of voters in the Wa Central constituency and other parts of the Upper West Region defied the dry and cold hammattan morning and queued as early as 0600 hours to cast their ballots. Apart from a minor incident at the Dobile Catholic Primary School polling station in the Wa Central Constituency where an NPP polling agent attempted to prevent a suspected minor from voting and was nearly manhandled by some voters in the queue, the mood of voters had so far been calm.
There was a long queue of about 400 voters at the Dobile Catholic Primary polling station in the queue calmly waiting for their turn to cast their ballots when the GNA got there at 1000 hours and out of the 1,420 registered voters at the centre, 155 had cast their ballots. Over 100 voters queued before 0600 hours at Kperisi. At sombo Catholic Primary School polling station in the Nadowli West constituency, 194 people had voted by 0940 hours The Wa central mosque polling station recorded 262 voters as at 1020 hours out of a total voting population of 774.
Mr Saed Abdul Mumuni, the presiding officer at that centre, commended voters for the comportment they had so far exhibited and was confident that the exercise would end smoothly. Police officers and personnel of the other security Agencies in Wa were spotted in some of the polling stations appealing to voters on the need for them to comport themselves so that the exercise would be conducted in peace. Mr Azaria Kuunpiel, Presiding officer of the Limanyiri 'A' polling centre, which is a major flash point in the Wa central Constituiecy, said no incident had been recorded in the centre and he was optimistic that the situation would remain calm. The New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress had Agents in all the Polling stations, while the Convention People's Party and the Democratic Freedom Party had agents in only some of them.
Politics Elections Voting 31 Wa
At Kabanye Junior High School polling station in the Wa Central Constituency, 89 people out of the 620 registered voters had voted as at 0715 hours and two disabled persons were among those who had cast their votes.
Eighty-three people out of 880 registered voters had exercised their franchise at the Wa District Labour Office Polling Station at 0826 hours while at Wa Centre Prison Polling Station 55 people out of the 423 registered voters also cast their votes as at 0831 hours. At Adonis Cinema Palace Polling Station, out of the 693 registered voters, 138 people had cast their votes as at 0847 ahours with 153 people out of the 533 registered voters voting at the Museums and Monument Board Polling Station "B" at 0857 hours.
One hundred and six (106) out the 511 registered voters had voted at the Museums and Monument Board Polling Station "A" as at 0900 hours. Also at the Environmental Health Office Polling Station "A" 217 people out of 820 registered voters voted at 0907 hours while 110 people out of 684 registered voters at the Environmental Health Office Polling Station "B" exercised their franchise as at 0918 hours. One disabled person was among those who voted at the Environmental Health Office Polling Station "B". In all the Polling Stations that the GNA visited the various political parties were well represented by their agents 07 Dec 08
