The Eastern regional Women Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Shirley Naana Ampem has called for prayers for President Akufo-Addo in order to have the strength to accept defeat in 2020.
She said Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party should emulate the statesmanship exhibited by former President John Mahama who accepted defeat in the 2016 Presidential election, despite some reservations.
Addressing supporters of the NDC after “Ramadan Health Walk” organized by the Zongo Caucus wing of the New Juaben South constituency in Koforidua Sunday, Ampem said: “From here let’s remember Ghana in prayers for Allah to continuously grant us peace so that when NDC wins the 2020 election they [NPP government] will accept defeat and hand over peacefully just like what former President Mahama did in 2016”.
She said the way and manner the NPP government removed the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei and appointed Jean Mensa suggests that the NPP wants to circumvent the electoral system against the will of the people.
The Eastern Regional Vice Chairman of NDC, William Atamudzi, called on President Akufo-Addo to implement the recommendations of Emile Short Commission report on the Ayawaso West Wuagon to affirm his true commitment to the fight against political Vigilantism.
The organizer of the “Ramadam Health Walk” Ahmed Mikano Tijani, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator for New Juaben South Constituency said the purpose of the exercise was to foster unity among supporters of the party and energize them to enter into the Ramadam fasting which is a few weeks ahead.
Present at the Walk was the Eastern Regional Secretary, Mark Oliver Kevor, Deputy Regional Treasurer -Obibini Richard, Regional Organizer, Hackman Kabore among others.
