President's nominees for DCEs in UWR approved

Nadowli, (UWR), April 30, GNA - All the nine persons that President John Evans Atta Mills has nominated for the post of District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Upper West Region have been approved. The last of them was Mr Abu Kansambata, a 29 year old development expert who polled 48 out of 49 votes to become the DCE for Nadowli District. Other nominees who were earlier approved were Mr Bernard Puozuing, DCE for Jirapa, Mr Clement Benin, DCE for Lambussie/Karni, Mr Seidu Tingbani, DCE for Wa West and Mr Duogo Yakubu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive. The rest were Madam Alijata Sulemana, DCE for Sissala East, Mr Robert Wavei Baka, DCE for Sissala West, Mr Aminu Salifu, DCE for Wa East and Mr Samson Abu, DCE for Lawra. The completion of the confirmation exercise had now put government machinery in place to begin work at the grassroots level to provide the basic developmental needs to enhance the living conditions of the people.

Briefing the press at Nadowli, Mr Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister attributed the success of the Upper West story to the cooperation of all stakeholders including chiefs, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress at the regional and district levels, members of the opposition parties and the media. "Any where we went and appeal for support, the people understood us because development of the region had taken the centre stage of our discussion. That let to the burial of all differences among the people and yielded positive results," Mr Khalid said. He called on the people in the region to take advantage of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority and all other government interventions to improve the socio-economic growth. Mr Kansambata said he would form a "district think tank group" to oversee the development needs of the people. He appealed to experts and professionals from the district to avail themselves to the process to fast track the development of the district. 30 April 09
