Press Release By The Council Of Elders Of The Peoples National Convention.

1. After several months of open and public agitation and feuding among certain members of the Party and the National Executive of the party, the Council of Elders of the party , after fervent deliberations with the relevant groups and parties concerned wishes to assure the party’s rank and file throughout the country as well as the general public in Ghana and abroad that the council of elders has taken a very serious view of the disturbances and is committed to resolving the expressed grievances, misunderstandings that have racked the party of late.
2. The Council wishes to urge all members of the party as well as its sympathizers, friends and well wishers to continue to exercise the greatest restraint in these trying times. The Council considers the situation anomalous and extraordinary which can none the less be settled amicably within the family.
3. In the spirit of the tradition of comradeship and brotherliness that characterizes our party, the council wishes to state in no uncertain terms that no matter the grievances that any member may harbor against other members of the executive or officers of the party, the party has ways of resolving such issues within its structures, including the council.
4. Furthermore, the Council of Elders of this party believes that any true believer in the tradition and spirit of the PNC just as the People’s National Party and the Convention People’s Party e.t.c, would be among the first to condemn and steer clear of any action that is tantamount to a coup d’état. Consequently the Council wishes to state in no uncertain terms that no matter the grievances the Committed Group may have against any officer of the Party, there is no justification in taking over the party Headquarters and in the process preventing the executive from performing their duties, especially when the constitution of the party does not make provision for such action let alone the creation of an Interim Management Committee to run the party. The National Executive of the Party is also requested to withdraw the court case against three members of the party for an out of court settlement.
5. The Council of Elders therefore urges all the feuding factions in the party as well as the National Executives of the party to submerge the fervor of their individual , aggrieved and hurt feelings and cooperate without any reservations with the council to arrive at a final and amicable resolution of the situation so that the way will be open to serve the common purpose of the party to grow and progress as this is the wish of the party’s rank and file. In this regard, the elders of the Party in conjunction with other senior members of the party will sit down together with representatives of the feuding factions in order to find a solution to all grievances that have been raised in the feud.
6. The Council of Elders believes that the Party stands for and represents an important proportion of the Ghanaian society and for this reason every group therefore has a role to play in its progress and development.. The council in the long run intends to organize a round table conference to address and find solutions to the grievances that have been expressed by various groups within the party.
