Chairman for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, has dared the party to initiate a legal action against him if they believe he squandered party funds.

In an interview with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he revealed that they received funds for only 17 constituencies out of the total of 47 in the region during the campaign period.

He said, funding for the campaign in 2016 was not being channeled to the right source.

Mr. Obimpeh told the host that, he asked for an enquiry into the matter because he has being accused of pocketing party funds which was meant for campaign in 2016.

He said, ‘’after we lost the elections, some individuals who are currently yearning for party positions are going round accusing me of squandering party funds. That is an unfortunate situation and so I have challenged the party to investigate and prosecute me if they suspect misappropriation on my part.’’

He stressed that funds given him were that for agents and 17 constituencies out of the 47. He said, I received the money from a certain man who I never met before.

He was in the company of George Lawson. After he handed over the money to me, I called back to confirm if the money given him, was meant for only 17 constituencies and he said yes.

He indicated, I have been constrained to make any comment on what led to our defeat due to the ongoing review by the Kwesi Botchwey led committee on reasons for the humiliating defeat of the party.
