The Constituency Chairman of Pusiga in the Upper East Region, Issaka Seidu, is in hot water for openly telling constituents of Pusiga to vote against the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, but to vote for the NPP parliamentary candidate, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, in the upcoming General Elections.
A viral video of Seidu admonishing some constituents not to vote for or support Dr. Bawumia but rather John Mahama has generated much discussion on social media, with NPP supporters and sympathizers castigating the chairman for betraying the party.
In an interview, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the NPP, Peter Ayinbisa, on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, condemned the comments in no uncertain terms, noting that the chairman was utterly reckless.
He confirmed that a petition to the Regional Executive has been forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action.
“It’s quite worrying that you would be working very hard to push the party and the parliamentary candidate to win both elections, only for a party chairman to be seen making such comments.
"So, his comments are quite detrimental to the efforts of the party. I would describe that as reckless because it should not have come from the party chairman because he represents the face of the party in that constituency,” Ayinbisa noted.
He, however, rejected accusations that the Parliamentary Candidate, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, is an accomplice to attempts by the embattled chairman to undermine the campaign of Dr. Bawumia.
