A Tamale-based contractor has announced his decision to challenge Daniel Bugri Naabu for the position of Northern Regional Chairman of New Patriotic party (NPP) when nominations are open in the future.
Mr. Adam Samba who claims to be a financier of the party, has among other things promised to make the region the stronghold of the party if given the nod outlining his capabilities.
According to him, the region stands a greater chance of doubling its electoral fortunes under his watch and therefore promised to double efforts to achieve the set targets.
Currently the NPP holds 13 out of the 31 seats in the region with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the majority, but Mr. Adam Samba disclosed that he has what it takes in terms of strategy and resources to turn the tide.
“We added only three seats from the 2012 elections in 2016 but that was not our target, our target was 17 parliamentary seats”. He disclosed
The NPP in the 2016 general elections added Nantong, Savelugu and Salaga constituencies to the already 10 seats it had but lost others making the total number of seats won 13.
The entire total votes cast in the region for parliamentary was 327,422 (58.06%) NDC and NPP 255,544 (41.94%) whiles the presidential votes was 521,850(55.35%) for NDC and 398,384 (42.25%) for the NPP.
But, the NPP Northern Regional Aspirant said gains made in the 2016 elections were not enough, adding that, the task was to win additional 7 seats and wondered why the party failed win Zabzugu, Tatale Sanguli, Karaga and Yagaba-Kubure constituencies.
